Root note Db

Power chord

The power chord is commonly used in rock and metal music. It is made out of just two notes, the one (Db) and the fifth (Ab).

Most heavy power riffs are played with the root note low on the E string. This means power chords in E, F, F#, Gb, G, G# or Ab sound the heaviest.

The note Db is not much of a heavy note in standard tuning. Using a power chord in a higher register is nothing to be ashamed of. It is used in many songs.

In its simplest form you play just two strings.

Spice it up by adding an octave above or below.

Change to drop-D tuning to make it even easier.

flat note

The Db is a flat note. flat notes lie in between the whole notes.
